Confidence. Safety. Independence.

Bikeability is the national cycle training programme supported by the Department for Transport and designed to give riders the practical skills, confidence and awareness to cycle safely on today’s roads. Whether you're a beginner, a returning cyclist, or want to sharpen your on-road skills, Bikeability equips you with everything you need to ride with confidence on the roads.

Here at All Mountain Guided Rides, we offer fully accredited Bikeability training for individuals, families, and small groups of all ages and abilities. Whether you're 8 or 80, there's a level for you.

What are the Bikeability levels?

It’s human nature that if something is too difficult, or too much of a challenge we lose heart and get fed up, but if something is too easy we get bored. Bikeability provides the ‘sweet spot’ of matching individual ability to training requirements.

Bikeability is a progressive programme across 3 levels so all riders can develop their skills confidently.

Bikeability Level 1 – Mastering the Basics

Who’s it for?
Riders who are new to cycling or still building their core skills. Ideal for children, beginners, or those returning to cycling after time away. It takes place off-road so you can learn the required skills in a traffic free environment.

What’s covered?

  • Basic bike handling skills including learning to pedal one handed

  • Starting, braking, stopping, and steering

  • Looking behind and signalling

  • Simple control and awareness in a traffic-free space

Duration and cost

1-2 hours | £40 per person *

* Discounts available for 2+ riders (12 riders max)

Bikeability Level 2 – Confident road riding

Who’s it for?
Riders who are comfortable with basic control and ready to ride on quiet local roads. All the skills learnt in Level 1 are now transferred to the road.

What’s covered?

  • Starting and stopping with more confidence

  • Positioning on the road when passing stationary vehicles and navigating junctions

  • Decision-making in real life traffic situations

  • Cycling with greater awareness so we can share the road with other vehicles safely

Duration and cost

2-6 hours | £80 per person *

* Discounts available for 2+ riders (6 riders max)

Bikeability Level 3 – Advanced road skills

Who’s it for?
Confident cyclists ready to tackle busier roads, roundabouts, and complex traffic situations – including adults on their daily commute, or older children moving on to independent journeys. Every Level 3 course is tailored to your own needs. It might focus on a skill you might want to practice more, or a tricky road where you travel often.

What’s covered?

  • Re-asserting the best riding position for any situation

  • Riding with other cyclists

  • Riding on more complex roads which includes dealing with heavy traffic, multi-lane roads, more complicated junctions, and roads with speed limits above 30mph

  • Negotiating more complex roads such as navigating roundabouts, traffic lights, complex junctions and cycle lanes

  • Route planning and risk assessment

  • Cycling confidently and assertively when a situation changes

Duration and cost

2 hours | £50 per person *

* Discounts available for 2+ riders (3 riders max)
